Share Early Care for children from 0 to 6 years old

Early Childhood Care for children from 0 to 6 years old becomes the first and most important link in a chain that aims at the optimal evolution of children with problems in their development or at risk of suffering them.

Child development during the first years of life is subject to various interactions with the natural and social environment. This sociocultural environment provides the child with a series of experiences that will have a decisive influence on his or her future, progressively acquiring important functions at motor, cognitive, linguistic and social level.

Children receive a natural stimulation that is usually sufficient to guarantee an adequate integral development. However, they are not always provided with the necessary experiences for their maximum potential development. It is then when the Early Attention takes its widest functionality, becoming not already an advisable technique, but essential.

What is Early Care?

We understand Early Care :

"the set of interventions, aimed at the child population of 0-6 years, the family and the environment, which aim to respond as soon as possible to the transitory or permanent needs of children with disorders in their development or that have the risk of suffering them ".

What is a developmental disorder?

Development disorder is the significant deviation of the "course" of development, as a consequence of health events or relationships that compromise the biological, psychological and social development of the child.

For these children with developmental delays, Early Childhood programs are not only necessary, but also an inalienable right. It is about starting an intervention from the moment of birth or from the moment the deficit is detected.

Children with transitory or permanent needs caused by alterations in development are included, such as:

  • Disorders in motor development
  • Disorders in cognitive development
  • Disorders in sensory development
  • Disorders in language development
  • Generalized developmental disorders
  • Behavioral disorders
  • Emotional disorders
  • Disorder in the development of anatomical expression
  • Evolutionary delays

What treatments are performed in Early Care?

The intervention treatments are very varied, among which we can highlight the following:

  • stimulation
  • physiotherapy
  • speech therapy
  • psychomotor
  • psycho-pedagogical support
  • psychotherapy

How can access to Early Care?

The children can arrive by means of the derivation of different services, as they are the sanitary ones (hospitals, Centers of Primary Attention, Centers of Mental Health

), educational (Early Care Teams, Educational Guidance and Psychopedagogical Teams)

), social (Centers Bases, Municipal Social Services

) and of course, on the families' own initiative, in case of any doubt about the development of their child.

However, it is necessary to know that there are a series of requirements necessary to access the services offered by an Early Intervention Center. These requirements are:

  • Have an age between 0 and 6 years or until the start of their schooling in the compulsory primary stage
  • Present temporary or permanent special needs caused by deficiencies or alterations in the development
  • Have the relevant assessment and accreditation issued by public health, educational or social services, authorized and recognized for this purpose, that determine the need to receive treatment at the Early Care Center
  • Not receiving the same type of treatment in another Public Center or Service

What role do parents have in Early Care?

In Early Care, the family is the main resource to respond to their own needs. The support to families that have among their members a son or daughter with special needs or who are going to afflict the birth of a child with some alteration in their development (and the changes that in their family system causes), is always done by giving all kinds of information, help or guidance.

If having any type of disability at any age is a drama, it will be much greater if they occur at the beginning of development, since at these ages the alterations in development have a great neurological, psychological and sensory complexity.

Early Care begins as soon as possible in the sense of avoiding secondary disabilities, and providing satisfactory changes in the habilitation processes at all levels (prevention). Thus, all children with a need for care receive help in their deficit area (attention). The care provided by the Center always facilitates the transition from the family to education and autonomous social life (integration).

Therefore, Early Childhood Care for children from 0 to 6 years is a first and very important step for our children to enhance their skills in order to achieve optimal progress in all areas of development that are altered.
